Greater Need for PPC to be Used with Local Optimization, Lesson #14

The shift to local search optimization and the increased competition for top organic search positions has made paid online advertising more important for your business to get the consistent visibility it needs.  Image that Google made a change that will increase their revenue from pay-per-click advertising??? We all hoped the free stuff would work better but that’s not the case.  Even with a solid local search effort it is best to use some PPC to be sure you are getting the exposure you need on all your keyword.

Barry Schwartz on our loss of wisdom

This is one of my favorite video’s ever because it addresses the two core issues that are causing the decline of our society and the demoralization of our workforce.  We are no longer the community of thinkers we once were.  We are fast becoming a community of manipulative rule makers and this is sapping our ability to trust and be truly creative in solving our problems.  This is true in business and in government.  Rarely if ever do we find the solution to even a simple problem in more rules and the introduction of complexity.  If we could solve our problems by creating complex rules and incentives for people we would have solved all of them and all of us would be wealthy beyond belief by now.

Open environments that encourage creativity and depend on our basic human nature to do the right thing is the basis for all our solutions, public and private.   Barry Schwartz explains this in the following TED video.  The video was made in 2009 and he makes a number of references to statements made by Obama.  It is interesting to compare Obama’s statements to the governance we have experienced.

In my travels I have the privilege to visiting a diversity of businesses. There are still many that operate with a heavy reliance on wisdom and trust in human nature to develop great products and provide exceptional services. These companies large and small are almost always leaders in their respective industries and communities. They seem to thrive in good and bad economic environments. The difference is trust and the freedom they grant to their managers, employees and suppliers to work together to solve problems in a creative and effective way. We often refer to these organizations as bottom-up companies.

I do my best to run my business focused these values just as many of you do.

It’s worth the 20 minutes. I hope you enjoy Barry Schwartz speaking on our loss of wisdom.

Local Search Optimization and PPC, Lesson #13

Local search optimization is the hot topic of the year. On one hand the move to favor local businesses has created an advantage for local companies in organic search.  On the other hand with this change intense competition has emerged. Some have assumed  companies that have had little or no Internet presence would be able to somehow leap ahead under the change to local search.  Sorry no dice. What the charge did was increase the burden of work and the diversity of effort to earn a top spot on the first page Google map.  For those of you that have performed poorly in the past it just got harder.  Companies that have been active in building their online presence in the past will continue to be rewarded as they strengthen their local optimization efforts to meet the news standards.

Linked In and Business to Business, Lesson #10

If your product of service is a business to business offering put your social media focus on Linked In. Why, this may help.  If you are an accountant specializing in tax auditing services of the following choices which would be the best venue to promote your business?  a) Passing out brochures at the State Fair or b) speaking to a group of business owners that are being audited by the IRS?  In this analogy Facebook is the State Fair and Linked In is speaking to the business owners with tax problems. Through the use of keywords, a focused business and personal profile, participation in groups, keyword targeted updates, large network and advertising you can speak directly to your best prospects using linked In.   http://on.mash.to/mZWFxJ
